Dubai: The General Manager of the Atlantis Hotel Dubai, Amadeo Zarzosa, resigned a few days ago. The hotel has not yet confirmed his resignation.
Contacted by Gulf News, Atlantis spokeswoman Ashley McBain declined to comment but said the company would release a statement on Sunday.
Zarzosa was appointed General Manager of the 1,500-room hotel on Palm Jumeirah last November and organised the opening event which was held in the midst of the global economic downturn at a cost of $20 million.
The show included spectacular fireworks and completely shut down the Palm. He resigned for "personal reasons", the industry web portal HotelierMiddleEast.com reported, saying that the step comes "as a shock" to the hospitality industry in Dubai.
Zarzosa's resignation is surprising as in recent interviews he spoke of the hotel management's plans.
