Abu Dhabi: A stove manufactured by Italian home appliance manufacturer Glem Gas has been recalled from the Abu Dhabi market following concerns regarding the amount of heat it generates, it was announced on Tuesday.
The recall was announced by the emirate of Abu Dhabi’s quality infrastructure regulator, the Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council (QCC).
Details are also available on the QCC’s product recall website, www.manaa.ae.
According to this, users could suffer from burns while operating the four-hob gas cooker and oven sold under model number MQ1612GI01 AB-1-EI1612 GI/FS.
Mohammad Al Beloushi, director of marketing and public relations at the QCC, told Gulf News that electrical appliances are tested for safety against international standards, as well as local standards set by federal standardisation regulator, the Emirates Authority for Standardisation and Metrology.
“We survey the market regularly and test available products. If a risk is perceived, we then work with the suppliers to remove the product from the market,” he explained.
In cases where suppliers are asked to withdraw a product, the QCC finds that 99 per cent of them comply quickly.
“The main reason why products are withdrawn from the market tends to be consumer safety,” Al Beloushi added.
