MUSCAT -- In the framework of promoting greater communication and the strengthening of deep-rooted cultural and historical ties, Oman, as a member of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) will be represented by the Ministry of Heritage and Culture in a Joint Working Group between the GCC and Turkey, formed to widen and develop cultural co-operation.

Meetings are to be held between the GCC's Cultural Committee and their Turkish counterparts on Monday and Tuesday to examine different cultural aspects related to strategies, mechanisms and co-operation and ways of strengthening them.

This is part of the important cultural study and the hosting of GCC Cultural Days 2012, in Ankara -- as adopted by GCC ministerial resolution during the last meeting of GCC Ministers of Culture in Abu Dhabi in 2011. Other areas covered include exchange of expertise in 'protection of archaeological sites', 'repair works and excavations', 'museums' and the 'development of theatres, cinemas, and Islamic arts'.

Yousef bin Ibrahim al Balushi, General Manager, Organisations and Cultural Relations and member of the Cultural Committee of the GCC, and Biubwa bint Ali al Sabria, Director of Excavation and Archaeology, will be representing the Ministry of Heritage and Culture at the meetings.
