With the inauguration of two new oil depots, the country's capacity for storing oil products has increased by 400 million liters to reach 12 billion liters.

Since the beginning of the current Iranian year (started March 21), two new storage depots have become operational, Mehr News Agency reported.

Malayer oil depot in Hamedan province has a storage capacity of 70 million liters and the capacity of Mahshahr's new oil depot in Khuzestan province amounts to 300 million liters.

Concurrent with the inauguration of these two depots, gasoline storage depots with a capacity of 30 million liters were also launched in northeastern provinces.

Also, a number of fuel storage depots are expected to be launched by the yearend, increasing fuel storage capacity by 570 million liters.

Currently, the construction of oil depots in Orumieh (West Azarbaijan), Shiraz (Fars province) and Birjand (South Khorasan province) is on the agenda.

Construction of oil depots in Arak (Markazi province), Qom, Bojnourd (North Khorasan province) and Semnan is near completion.

Iran is to increase fuel storage capacity to 15 billion liters by 2025.

In September, Abdollah Ahmadi, IOTC's engineering and construction manager, said with the inauguration of the depots on Kharg Island, Iran's storage capacity will grow by 4 million barrels.
