Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi will visit Ashgabat next week to attend a meeting of Iran-Turkmenistan Economic Cooperation Commission.

The commission seeks to review mutual economic relations and find ways to expand them, Fars News Agency reported.

President's Special Envoy for Caspian Sea Affairs Mohammad Mehdi Akhoundzadeh will also visit Turkmenistan next week for talks on bilateral cooperation on the Caspian Sea as well as its legal issues.

Earlier in May, Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Middle East and Commonwealth of Independent States Affairs Mohammad Reza Sheibani submitted President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's message to Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

During the meeting in Ashgabat, Berdimuhamedov expressed satisfaction over the level of ties between the two countries and called for further expansion of cooperation with Iran.

The two sides exchanged views on avenues for further bolstering cooperation between Tehran and Ashgabat, and also discussed the latest regional development.

Iranian deputy foreign minister reiterated that Tehran attaches great importance to ties with Ashgabat, as 'Turkmenistan is of much importance in Iran's foreign policy'.
