Doha: Work on the industrial area being developed in Al Khor is progressing fast and the first phase involving development of necessary infrastructure is over.

The second phase of the project has begun which will eventually see a world-class industrial area catering to all kinds of industries, Al Sharq reported yesterday.

The industrial area is located at Umm Baraka and expected to provide industrial and commercial diversity and meet the needs of industrial development in the northern areas over the long-term. Umm Baraka is located along Al Shamal road and the road leading to Ras Laffan and Al Khor, and expected to attract a variety of industrial and commercial entities that the existing industrial area fails to accommodate for lack of required infrastructure.

During the first phase of the project, the land was developed, infrastructure works were completed and the sites allocated for each industrial activity were divided according to the nature of different industries and related services.

The planning of Al Khor industrial area project aims to lighten mounting pressure on services and infrastructure in previous similar industrial area projects taking into consideration potential future expansions.

During the second phase land will be divided and the remaining infrastructure works will be completed and internal and external roads will be built. The daily said that once the industrial area is ready for use, entrepreneurs applying for industrial plots will not have to be put on the long waiting list.
