MUSCAT -- In an earnest effort to bring Oman's rich culture and heritage across borders, Eihab Travels, part of the Oman Holding Company, is hosting the renowned Swedish traveller Mikael Strandberg who is on his maiden visit to the country. Strandberg, a distinguished Swedish explorer, started his journey 19 years back and gained global recognition through various expeditions across the globe. His expeditions include bicycle rides from Chile to Alaska, from Norway to South Africa and explorations in Siberia, Patagonia.

The high-profile explorer has been chosen by a Swedish company to guide its troupes in Oman later this year. Strandberg is also planning an Empty Quarter expedition in the future. He is utilising his current visit for a camel trek in Rub Al Khali as a learning process for the forthcoming greater expedition. He spent a night at the deluxe Desert Nights Resort in Rimal al Sharqiya. During the 10 months of his expedition in Oman, he will do a long camel ride to highlight the people, the area and the culture and in an attempt to mark a historic adventure, he will be cruising from Oman to Jordan which will be the longest expedition of its kind across deserts and on camel back.

Strandberg was voted the Explorer Hero by the National Geographic in 2002, and subsequently the channel went to make a documentary on his adventurous life. He is the first ever Swedish to lecture at the Royal Geographical Society and at the Explorers' Club in New York. Prasad Pillai, General Manager, Eihab Travels, Bainu Thomas, Operations Manager, and Robby George, Tour Manager, were also present at yesterday's press briefing.
