Doha: An exhibition of art showcasing exceptional 19th and 20th-century Impressionist and Orientalist works by leading artists of the genre will take place in Qatar at the Four Seasons Hotel from October 29 to 31, said a release.
Sponsored by Strategic Real Estate Advisors (Stratreal) and Ansbacher, a member of the QNB Group, the art collection, worth over $50m, will be the first of its kind to appear in Qatar.
The exhibition will feature works of art by leading Orientalist painters like Rudolf Ernst, John Frederick Lewis, Edwin Lord Weeks and Jean-Leon Gerome. The paintings are inspired by the life, history and topography of North Africa, the Arabian Peninsula, Turkey and the Middle East.
In addition there will be notable paintings by some of the most famous artists of the 20th century, from Impressionist works to the later groundbreaking paintings of Picasso in the 1950s. There will also be sporting pictures exhibited consisting of racing scenes by famous British artists such as Herring and Orpen.
Chase Untermeyer, Vice-Chairman of Stratreal Asset Management (USA) Inc and former US ambassador to Qatar, is hosting the opening night of the exhibition with his wife Diana. He said: "We are delighted to be a sponsor of this exhibition which will see some of the finest Orientalist paintings showcased for the first time in Qatar, as well as some of the most famous paintings from the 20th century. The art scene is burgeoning across the Middle East region and there is tremendous appetite from the residents here for exhibitions of this kind."
Helen Macintyre, Managing Director at Macintyre Art Advisory, stated: "This is a great opportunity for art collectors, investors, scholars and those with an interest in history and art to see a range of exceptional works of great beauty and provenance. The fact that such an international selection will be exhibited for the first time is symptomatic of Qatar's growing global importance in all markets."
The exhibition is being held in association with Macintyre Art Advisory, Mount Street Galleries, Derek Johns and Martin Summers Fine Art.
The exhibition will take place on the Al Mirqab Terrace of the Four Seasons and will open daily to the public from 10 am to 6 pm. There will be a VIP private viewing hosted by Chase and Diana Untermeyer on October 29 between 6.30 pm and 9 pm.
A private ladies' VIP viewing will be hosted by Diana Untermeyer on October 30 between 6.30 pm and 9 pm, the release said.
