ABU DHABI, Sep. 14th, 2010: Kalima, a major translation initiative by the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (ADACH), in cooperation with the Rome-based Pontifical Oriental Institute, has released the Arabic edition of Italian Noble laureate Eugenio Montale's ground-breaking debut collection of poetry "Ossi di seppia" (Italian for Cuttlefish Bones).
The Arabic translation was made by Ezzideen Enaya, a professor at the Sapienza University of Rome (Sapienza - University di Roma) and Tunisian poet Mohammed Al-Khaledi. Eugenio Montale (October 12, 1896 September 12, 1981) won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1975. Ossi di seppia was published in 1925 and quickly became one of the "classics" of contemporary Italian poetry, according to Noble Prize website which describes him as one of the few obvious "true masters" of the last fifty years of Italian literature. In Montale's verses, sentiment appears desiccated by a severe intellectual rigour, evoked with intimate fullness in the fervid and striking sights of the Mediterranean landscape.Copyright Emirates News Agency (WAM) 2010.
