Abu Dhabi, 14 Nov.05 (WAM) -- Guests of Etihad Airways, the nationalairline of the United Arab Emirates, will soon be able to make in-flightdonations to the UAE Red Crescent Society, following the signing of amemorandumof understanding (MOU) between the airline and worldwide humanitarianorganization.
The Red Crescent Society operates in all areas of the world whichsuffer from poverty, war, displacement and disaster and serves those inneed without regard as to race, religion, class or political belief.
"Etihad Airways is one of the world's fastest growing airlines, andby allowing in-flight donations, of any amount, we expect our generousguests will contribute significantly to the vital international humanitarianwork the Red Crescent is conducting," said Robert Strodel, CEO, Chairmanof Etihad Airways.
Donation envelopes will be placed on aircraft on all Etihad Airwaysroutes and guests will be able to donate any loose change, currency orresidual balance of undesired foreign currency for charity projects tohelp some of the world's most vulnerable people.
"As a world-class airline, Etihad Airways wants to use its position tohelp those less fortunate in the world, and the MOU with the Red Crescent- one of the oldest and respected charity's in the world - will add greatlyto the organization's vital humanitarian work," said Harib Al Muhairy,Responsible for Product Development and Guest Services, Etihad Airways. The currency collected by Etihad Airways cabin crew on each flight willbe given to a Red Crescent representative, after which the cumulativedonations will go towards humanitarian, charitable and philanthropic schemes. "This partnership with Etihad Airways will bring considerable help tothose people suffering in the world today. Humanitarian aid is neededin so many different regions across the world, and the generosity of guestsof Etihad will enable the Red Crescent to deliver more assistance to thosewho have nothing," said Mr. Khalifa Naser Al Suweidi, RCS Board Chairman.
