Companies will be allowed to use both old and new prepaid envelopes for submitting labour-related applications until the end of this month.

The Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs introduced a new envelope for Dh2, replacing two previous envelopes with stamps costing Dh10 and Dh15.

The new and old systems will now run in tandem until October 31, according to a circular issued by Humaid bin Deemas, Assistant Undersecretary of the ministry for administrative and financial affairs.

From November 1, the ministry will accept only the new envelopes, distributed through 70 offices of Emirates Post.

Many typing offices, which help companies with ministry transactions, complained that they still had a stock of the previous stam-ped envelopes and were likely to lose out on their investment once the old system becomes redundant. This is the second extension of the grace period given to these offices to finish their stock of old envelopes.

The new system was praised as a step forward by many as it is cheaper and more convenient, and people will be able to send all their documentation in one go. It is also in line with a Cabinet decision to merge fees and streamline services.
