Abu Dhabi, 20th Jan. 2010 (WAM) -- For the 4th year in a row, Emirates Palace is the Diamond sponsor of the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship 2010 as part of its engagement and commitment to the golf sport community.

The international event is taking place at the Abu Dhabi Golf Club from January 21-24.

''By sponsoring this event, the Emirates Palace has actively demonstrated its commitment and support to cultural and sports events the Emirate of Abu Dhabi is hosting. The sponsorship of the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship underlines the Palace's tireless efforts to raising the profile of the emirate as a major destination for world top class golf championships,'' General Manager of Emirates Palace Hans Olbertz said.

He said the Emirates Palace has been a headline sponsor of the international event since it was launched in 2006 and it is a great honor to engage in such sport event of international prominence.

With some of the worlds top golfers already confirmed to battle out at Januarys 2010 Abu Dhabi Golf Championship, sports fans worldwide are going to be in for a great four days of the European Tour-backed event.

One of the key elements of the Championship is its depth of field. Year after year, organiser Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority looks to attract a wide-diversity of golfing greats.

And with 120 internationally assembled players eyeing a total prize pot of US$2million, the Championship looks set to continue evolving as the Middle East becomes an increasingly top-of-mind stop of the sport.

The Abu Dhabi Golf Championship is an initiative of the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA). The Championship is a founding pillar in ADTAs strategy to utilise high-visibility sports and events to increase the emirates international tourism profile and globally position Abu Dhabi as a world-class tourism, leisure, business and cultural destination of distinction. All four days of the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship 2010 will be covered live on high definition TV, reaching a global audience of over 400 million.

The 126 man field for the 5th annual Abu Dhabi Golf Championship, taking place at Abu Dhabi Golf Club, is one of the strongest in the series history.
