Abu Dhabi, May 19th, 2008 (WAM)--Emirates Foundation, one of the leading philanthropic organisations in the UAE, celebrated this week the awarding of Masters' Degrees to scholars at the British University in Dubai (BUiD).

A colourful graduation ceremony at Dubai's Knowledge Village saw the graduation of more than 30 Masters' candidates, including Foundation scholars, Mariam Al Ghawi (Education) and Khaled Bin Ali, Hind Al Youha and Suha Al Alili (Project Management).

The BUiD Vice Chancellor, Dr Abdullah Al Shamsi, stressed the importance of higher education in building a modern society within the UAE -- paying tribute to the founding British universities who created BUiD, as well as supporting organisations such as the Emirates Foundation.

In her remarks, the Foundation's Director of Projects, Khuloud Al Nuwais, said that the BUiD and the Foundation had very similar aims. "Both of our institutions know that only the best academic teaching, training and education will help UAE graduates to achieve their goals in life," she stressed. "Both of us also agree that no-one should be held back from a quality education by shortage of funds."In June 2006, the Emirates Foundation Managing Director, Ahmed Ali Al Sayegh, introduced the inaugural scholarship programme for qualified UAE nationals at BUiD- agreeing with the BUiD Scholarship Committee to fund post-graduate scholarship awards for deserving students.

As a result of the success of this first initiative, the Emirates Foundation post-graduate scholarship programme has continued during the academic year, 2007-2008, with scholarships for 75 UAE nationals.
