Abu Dhabi: Egypt's Wadi Degla emerged champions in the Dh650,000 women's sevens football competition of the Dh10 million Armed Forces Officers Club's Ramadan Sports Festival.
The Egyptian girls and Morocco's Barsheed Club shared four goals in an exciting final and then in the tie-breaker, Wadi Degla reigned supreme with a 4-3 verdict.
Ehsan Eid who scored both goals for Wadi Degla in full time, made no mistake with her penalty effort to boost her tournament tally to nine goals. But Lamiya Bomahadi of the Moroccan club, with 11 goals to her credit, took the special award as sharp-shooter. Earlier, Brazilian club Geracao finished third with a 3-2 win over a fight Bahraini women's team.
"We had 10 teams in the fray and the crowds enjoyed the quality of play by the women footballers. Now the focus shifts to the men's event with the knock-out stages set to produce some exciting games," said Col Mohammad Al Bushlaibi of the AFOC.
