Cairo –  Egypt has assigned a committee to determine locations for setting up electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in Giza, the Minister of Public Business Sector, Hisham Tawfik, said.

Afterwards, the committee will choose locations of EV charging stations in Cairo, Alexandria, and Qaliubiya over four weeks, Tawfik added in a statement on Tuesday.

The committee is comprised of representatives from the Ministry of Public Business Sector, the four governorates, Infinity, and White Taxi Association

The country aims to build about 3,000 dual EV stations in line with the directives of the President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.

The minister expects El Nasr Automotive Manufacturing Company to start manufacturing electric cars (Nasr E70) by mid-2022.

The Nasr E70 car saves about EGP 200,000 in costs over 300,000 kilometres (km) compared to a car running on 92-octane gasoline.
