Egypt's government is eyeing the construction of a USD 870 million marble industrial zone in Minya governorate of Upper Egypt, an official source told Zawya.

Ahmad Gabr, director of investment in Minya, said, "The industrial development authority in the ministry of agriculture submitted a proposal to establish an industrial zone to manufacture marble and stone products at Wadi Al-Sarariya in northern Minya."

He expects the proposal to be approved by end-2013. Currently, the economic consulting unit of the authority is conducting technical and financial studies for the project and preparing for tender offering.

The governorate of Minya will be the owner of the project and will be responsible for offering tenders.
