Dubai,Oct.15th, 2007 (WAM) -- Commercial City, the business and commerce capital of Dubai World Central (DWC) - the 140 square kilometres urban aviation project under development in Jebel Ali, has finalised its master plan that incorporates the best of city planning processes from around the world.
Broadway Malyan, a leading international architectural and integrated design practice with offices throughout the UK and the world, partnered DWC in creating a world class urban city design with completely new offerings than those currently seen in Dubai. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman, Dubai Aviation Corporation - Dubai World Central said: ?Achieving liveable, sustainable and dynamic communities that positively impact the environment and explores innovative solutions in architectural design is what global cities strive for. DWC Commercial City will integrate all these concepts into its living environment. ?The city will be the nerve cell for Dubai World Central once the new Dubai World Central International Airport (JXB) - set to be the world?s largest - is fully operational in 2015. The master planning process involved specialists, including urban designers, masterplanners, town planners, landscape architects, regeneration and sustainability consultants, and interior designers who studied top cities like New York, Paris, Singapore, Tokyo and Hong Kong among others.?The city?s master plan was created to be as forward thinking as the overall project?s visionary approach which is in line with the Dubai Strategic Plan 2015. With an annual capacity of up to 150 million passengers a year, JXB?s infrastructure and operations will be ably supported by the surrounding components - DWC Aviation City, DWC Residential City, DWC Commercial City and DWC Golf City.?With such a unique project that caters to Dubai?s aviation, logistics, commercial and tourism needs until 2050 and beyond, Commercial City?s master plan is comparable to global benchmarks when it comes to similar projects in urban design,? explained Khalid bin Harib, CEO, Real Estate, Dubai World Central.
?The aim is to create a perfect environment for business and commerce and set new standards for substantial urban development in the UAE. With DWC becoming a regional and global hub model, requests from international clientele have come in to build similar projects overseas - an achievement that speaks for itself.?DWC Commercial City?s eight zones will cater to all lifestyle amenities and will not be just a destination for work and residence. The Urban Village will have a mid-to-high end low density living destination, including sport and leisure clubs, plenty of open spaces while the Lake District?s community hub will cater to retail, leisure and office destinations based on a lakeside environment. The 7 Towers zone will be a landmark, including a two kilometre park with retail and leisure provisions, in addition to two transit stations. The Central Park within the ?Green Spine? which will come to define the Commercial City brand is a water-edged destination including a seven kilometres long central plaza. The Creative Commercial District has been designed as a hub for the media and creative industries and will include office spaces, showrooms and luxury fashion boutiques. The Grand Central zone will be the future gateway to DWC and Dubai, including leisure and entertainment destinations while the Business District is Commercial City?s finance and banking sector which will feature retail and leisure destinations, a transit centre and public spaces. The Residential Crescent is Commercial City?s luxury residential area which will include landmark towers and water gardens. These eight zones are separated into several districts, including business, residential and leisure. To cater to the huge population of 450,000 working and living there several transit roads will be developed, which will also include the Dubai Metro. As part of the UAE?s overall strategic plan, DWC Commercial City will also be one of the main stations for the future Emirates Express Train, linking all of the Emirates together, and in the future to the GCC countries. ?What is remarkable and indicative of the size of the project is the transportation system within DWC Commercial City,? commented bin Harib. ?The total length of roads within the city will be comparable to Dubai?s central highway - Sheikh Zayed Road - in length with the latest in intelligent road systems and state-of-the-art technology enforced as part of the rail and road link within DWC.?
