Nine underpasses to be constructed in the city

Driving inside the streets in Duhok, one would realize that the condition of the streets and traffic are very poor.

Azad Taha, Director of Media at the Duhok Traffic Police Directorate, claims that the city needs at least 12 underpasses and a number of highways.

Mohammed Shafiq, a driver from Duhok says they have a lot of complaints about the streets and traffic system.

"The streets are not made for this heave traffic and without underpasses and overpasses this issue cannot be solved," said Shafiq. "Unfortunately the streets get worse and worse every day."

Taha explained to the Kurdish Globe that majority of the streets in the city are very narrow and the number and capacity of the parking lots in downtown are too low. Hence people park their cars on the streets and ineviatably worsen the traffic situation.

Shawkat Mohammed, head of Duhok's Municipality, on the other hand says, due to the fact that the streets in Duhok are not in line with the expansion of the city, they have planned to build 9 underpasses on the major streets, 5 of which have already been tendered and 4 of them are to be tendered in the near future.
