DUBAI, Oct 2 (KUNA) -- UAE's Vice-President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai Sheikh Mohammad bin Rashed Al-Maktoum Tuesday honored Sheikh Mohammad Ali Sabouni, a Syrian, for winning the Islamic Personality title of Dubai's International Quran Award 2007.

Sheikh Mohammad then awarded 10 winners in the Quran competition. The first place winner gets 250,000 UAE Dirhams, the second 200,000, third gets 150,000. Winners from the fourth to 10th position get 65,000 Dirhams each, while the rest of the participants get 20,000 Dirhams each.

Each Dirham equals USD 0.272.

Chairman of the organizing committee Ibrahim Bumelha attributed the selection of Sabouni to his rich production in the explanation of the holy Quran.

He said Sabouni was among the leading scholars in the field of Quran and has over 40 publications.

The winner of the Islamic Personality title gets one million Dirhams (USD 272,000).
