DUBAI, 18th July, 2017 (WAM) -- The Dubai Municipality, on Wednesday, announced that it will soon start a health supervisor training programme for 3,600 employees in the citys salons and beauty centres to reduce wrong health practices.

"As the programme will enhance the hygiene awareness of workers in salons, it will have a positive impact on the health and safety of the public, reducing monitoring visits, customer complaints, violations, unhealthy practices, transmission of infectious diseases to customers and employees, and raise the level of response in applying the hygiene rules of the Dubai Municipality," said Redha Salman, Director of the Health and Safety Department.

The programme will be launched after the accreditation of the certification bodies by the Dubai Accreditation Centre, and the approval of health training and consulting companies by the Health and Safety Department, he added.

The aim of the training programme is to oversee the internal work system and service processes in salons and personal care centres, assessing the risks and development of corrective actions and plans to follow up these procedures, Salman stated.

The health supervisor is required to complete the training programme according to the hours specified by the Department of Health and Safety, and pass the test prepared by the certification bodies to obtain the health supervisor certificate.

"It also includes supervision of cleaning and sterilisation, utilisation of single-use tools, and the provision of services in a hygienic and safe manner. Duties of the health supervisor will also include the preparation of reports on health status and safety of employees according to a prepared checklist. Also, follow-up inspection and monitoring reports issued by the Health Control Section in the Health and Safety Department to remove all violations included in the report, and communicate with the department to provide them with all required documents," Salman said.

He stressed that the idea of the programme came after monitoring visits by the Health Control Section to measure employee awareness about the health and safety procedures in salons and beauty centres, which showed poor knowledge about the causes of transmission of infectious diseases, and lack of knowledge on health and safety.

The training programme will have a clear positive impact on the revival of the economic situation, as a result of increased customer confidence in the services provided to them, he added.
