DUBAI, 5th April, 2017 (WAM) -- Dubai Municipality has recommended adopting basic map data for the city as it would be the only geographically approved map.

While presenting her paper at the Smart Data Conference organised by Smart Dubai, Mariam Al Muhairi, Director of Geographic Information Systems, GIS, Department at Dubai Municipality, said that since the basic map data for the city is officially approved, it can be enabled spatially and be used in decision-making through mathematical analysis and spatial co-ordination with other government departments.

The paper addressed the importance of large data and the results of their analysis to support decision-making and its reliability, often without knowing the source of such data.

She explained that the future requires the use of modern technology, with a clear plan to utilise it, to develop the sustainability and intelligence of the city, and to facilitate its amenities to increase the level of happiness of its people.

She added that the GIS Department uses all available data and conducts studies that would base decision-making on results, taking many factors into account. At the same time, it would link them to the geographical location with their impact ratios on the analysis determined, as well as negative impacts that may influence sound decision-making.
