Dubai The third edition of the Dubai Map launched by Dubai Municipality promises to be a one-point guide for Dubai residents and visitors by offering the latest information about the city’s roads and attractions.
The map comes in three varieties: a wall map and two others meant for travellers to keep in their cars or their pockets.
The first is a folded guide map measuring 118 x 84cm in full and 22 x 13cm after folding, and the promotional map is in the form of a folded pocket map measuring 60 x 45cm in full and 15 x 10cm after folding.
Although the promotional pocket map does not show full street details and names, it can be helpful as a quick reference for the most important areas in Dubai, such as downtown, Burj Khalifa and Marina areas.
It also has a Dubai Metro route map of both the Red and Green lines of the Metro and the names of the stations.
However, the map does not show feeder bus routes, which means users will still have to check the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) website and route maps for details on how to reach their destinations.
Navigation
What the map does offer are important phone numbers such as those for police, fire, taxis, airport information, hospitals and consulates.
It also contains information for tourists about the old town, Dubai Mall, Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary and Zabeel Park as well as facts and figures about the UAE, and although the map was launched in 2011, it contains a 2010 calendar of events, exhibitions and conferences.
The larger guide map features a naming and numbering system, suitable for geographical navigation system.
It shows the areas known as new Dubai in more detail than older maps, but ends just before the Green Community and Dubai Investment Park on Emirates Road.
Besides the information on the pocket map, the guide map also includes a window with a map of Dubai communities, which shows the names of each neighbourhood in the city, as well as an index of hotels, malls and leisure.
It is worth mentioning though that although Gulf News appears on the map near Safa Park, the newspaper’s location has been swapped with that of Al Bayan next door.
However, the Dubai map does not show feeder bus routes for Dubai Metro, which means users will still have to check the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) website.
