Dragon Completes Installation Of Dzheitune B Platform

Dragon Oil on 15 December announced that it had completed the installation of the Dzheitune (Lam) B platform in the Cheleken contract area offshore Turkmenistan in the Caspian Sea. The platform is located in the western part of the Dzheitune field and is the second new platform built and installed in the field since Dragon became operator in Cheleken in 2000. Dragon said in a statement that the Astra jack-up rig had arrived at the platform under a six-month contract and had commenced drilling the Dzheitune B/141 development well, which is due to come on-stream in the first quarter of 2010. Two wells will be drilled using the Astra rig. Eight wells are to be drilled from Platform B.

Meanwhile, the Iran Khazar rig drilled the Dzheitune A/139 well to a depth of 3,360ms, Dragon said. Testing of the short and long strings showed production rates of 1,350 b/d and 1,297 b/d of oil respectively. More testing is planned. The Iran Khazar rig has since been skidded another slot on Platform A to commence the Dzheitune A/142 well.
