MUSCAT -- Dr Shanta Kishore has expressed her deep sense of gratitude to His Majesty Sultan Qaboos for conferring Oman Civil Order, Fourth Class, on her and thus recognising her contributions and services in the field of anesthesia in Oman. "I also take this opportunity to thank Minister of Health Dr Ali bin Mohammed bin Moosa and all my colleagues in the ministry for their kind co-operation and support", she told the Observer here yesterday.
Dr Shanta is the first Indian woman to receive the prestigious Oman Civil Order for her indefatigable services in the field of anaesthesia in Oman since 1974. Dr Shanta, who has an illustrious record as a public-spirited anaesthetist, said, "I was absolutely thrilled to receive this prestigious award, recognising my three decades of humble services in this beautiful country".
She went on to add, "Being selected for this rare honour is simply unbelievable." Dr Shanta Kishore, who joined Al Nahda Hospital in 1974, is credited with having established anaesthesia services and training programmes in the country. According to doctors, Dr Shanta's contributions to the ministry and the society were noticed both by the Oman government and the medical fraternity. "She is among the few people who have been achievers from an early age", said her husband, Dr K K Kishore, a leading ENT surgeon, who also received Oman Civil Order several years ago.
