Russian-Canadian artist impresses Dubai’s art lovers with her creations in which she does not use black
Dubai At first glance it looks like a confetti rain, but on closer look it reveals a woman covering herself from the wind that has exploded in a riot of colours next to the Eiffel Tower. This is one of Daria Blizhenskaya’s paintings which she has brought to Dubai.
Visitors to the Art Lounge, Grand Hyatt Dubai, appreciate the exuberant use of colours that silently speak to the beholder.
Viewing her work will give the viewer an idea about what kind of artist Daria is and what school of art she is part of. Her canvas has shades of the master Impressionist Claude Monet.
“By all means, I cherish the Impressionist school of art and adore Monet as it’s observed through my artistic strokes and the excessiveness of the pleasant chromatic features of my displayed art pieces.
“Speaking of Monet will require another interview, because I’m not amplifying if I say I never quit learning from him. The beauty of his artworks has always made me pause and think about such unique creativeness,” she said.
Despite her observable attachment to the colours and all their shades, however, Daria prefers to avoid using black in her artworks in general. “As a matter of fact, each colour has its own beauty and impact on the artwork, but for me, I like to keep distance with this colour, maybe because my artwork shows a sense of gladness and mirrors the meaning of spontaneous good spirits. And the symbolism of the darkness represented by black totally contradicts my artistic approach,” the Russian–Canadian artist said.
But what if the object needs black shades? She said, “Well, there is always an alternative hue in the family of colours, so I compensate the absence of black by tending to the brown, especially the dark shade. For example, the dog I painted in one of my displayed work reflects the degree of black, but when you get closer, brown is the actual colour that’s in use,” she said.
Visitors were also astonished that at the opening ceremony a line of paintings were already tagged sold. Daria is impatiently looking forward to taking part in Art Dubai. “Indeed. I have already introduced my art to them and I’m going to join in the presentations of contemporary practices.”
She also makes sure she is available during the art exhibitions to exchange knowledge and experiences with Dubai’s art lovers. “As a matter of fact, visibility is an important factor that leads to recognition. And I like to introduce my art to everyone,” the 30-year-old said.
Besides her appreciation of Monet, she also cherishes the creations of Van Gogh and Gustav Klimt. “Most of the time I have an institutional and emotional feeling that takes me to certain places and certain times in my imagination.
“In other words, my work comes to me in my dreams, where this unconscious vision then enables me to express the final piece in reality,”
Daria aims at seeing life is filled with warmth and joyfulness, exactly as she tries to imagine it on her canvases.
