MUSCAT -- Daleel Petroleum felicitated 51 young Omanis on the successful completion of their study programmes ahead of their formal induction in the company. Ali bin Abdullah al Riyami, Director General of Marketing at the Ministry of Oil and Gas (and also Chairman of the company's Joint Management Committee) was the Chief Guest at the ceremony, which was held at Holiday Inn Muscat on Wednesday. Also present were officials of the Ministry of Oil and Gas and Ministry of Manpower.

Speaking at the event, Moza bint Saleh al Adawi, Chief Operating Officer, said the new inductees were part of a continuing commitment by Daleel Petroleum to provide employment to Omani job-seekers in line with His Majesty the Sultan's Royal directives. The company funded the studies of 35 Higher National Diploma (HND) holders and 16 general diploma holders who will be joining Daleel as technicians and assistant technicians respectively.

"These young and energetic individuals were provided with tailored training programmes to facilitate them to obtain fulltime employment in Daleel. So, today I'm very pleased and feel proud to stand here to honour their milestone achievement. I'm glad to say that they all showed great enthusiasm and commitment to learning. Today they bear the fruits of their efforts and celebrate their success," said Moza.

The official urged the new trainees to make learning a "continuous everyday process" given the complexity of the workplace in the oil and gas industry.

"On the job learning is very important. The Daleel workforce has a wealth of experience which our young employees can learn from. Moreover, we have dedicated on-the-job trainers to facilitate knowledge transfer as quickly as possible. We therefore, have great expectations from this group of employees," Moza stated.

Steadily rising Omanisation was proof of Daleel Petroleum's commitment to Omani recruitment, she stressed. "This can be seen by the fact that there has been a significant increase from 29 per cent Omanisation at the end of 2002 to 84 per cent as of today. We would not have achieved this without the investment in extensive recruitment processes and excellent cooperation and support from the Ministry of Oil and Gas and the Ministry of Manpower."

The Chief Operating Officer further added: "Daleel Petroluem has established structured development programmes including courses and on-the-job training with massive effort in developing in-house training to meet staff development requirements and linking these efforts with business growth to maintain Daleel Petroleum's as one of the successful oil and gas operators in Oman."

Of the 31 HND holders, 14 were trained for electrical technician positions, six for mechanical technician positions, six for instrument technician positions, seven for production operator positions, and two as lab technicians. The company has also recruited 14 university degree holders.
