The DSF Kite Flying Competition 2004 will be held at the Creekside Park from 10am to 5pm beginning January 16.
One can compete to win prizes for the largest kite, the smallest kite, the best homemade kite and the best decorated kite, (most unique shaped kite, most artfully decorated kite) the highest flying kite, the longest flying kite and several more. The only rule is that all kites must fly.
A Dubai Municipality initiative - the DSF Kite Flying Competition 2004 - is the first event of a series of "hands-on" family events.
The joys of kite flying can be traced back as far as 3,000 years and spans cultures across the globe. Whether used as a fishing aid, or as a way of investigating atmospheric electricity, or even as a method of announcing the birth of a child, kite flying has a multitude of uses varying from culture to culture.
Interestingly, this year's kite flying competition coincides with the famous Indian kite flying festival Makar Sankranti.
Conceptualised and being organised by Fire and Ice Events - the DSF Kite Flying Competition is a novel and entertaining way of testing craftsmanship and aptitude while promoting "outside the box" thinking, a characteristic of all Fire and Ice Events.
A wounded kites' hospital, a kite shop selling a variety of kites and a kite-making workshop will be there to support kite enthusiasts.
Additionally, in true Shopping Festival style, the event will also feature a range of family games like sack races, limbo and tons of spot games making the event an ideal day out for the entire family.
Last but not least RJ Gaurav of 101.6 will be there, playing the "hottest" remix numbers to bring the crowd alive, according to a press statement.
The Dubai Shopping Festival 2004 will open on January 15.
