Muscat - A tender to select a project management consultant for building the Sultanate's first design-build-operate (DBO) road project - Diba-Lima-Khasab road in Musandam in northern Oman - has been evoking encouraging response from consultancy firms.

Fourteen firms
As many as 14 local and international firms have already bought tender documents. Tender documents will be distributed until June 19, while the tenders will open on July 7.

The companies that are keen to participate in the tender include Parsons International, National Engineering, WS Atkins International, Cowi & Partners, Driver Consult Oman, Yas Consulting Engineers, National Engineering Office and Omani Engineering Consultancy.

65-km road
A study for the 65-kilometre-long road, which will be developed on a 20 year concession with a private operator, has already been completed and a tender for pre-qualification of companies was floated last year.
As many as 31 local and international companies have expressed interest in the pre-qualification.

Estimated to cost in the range of $1 billion, the project is among the most complex to be undertaken in the Sultanate, given the extremely rugged terrain through which the alignment runs.
