MADINAH: Madinah Gov. Prince Abdul Aziz bin Majed has been briefed on a comprehensive plan to develop Madinah at the headquarters of the Madinah Development Authority on Monday.

The plan, prepared by MMM, a Canadian consultancy firm, seeks to achieve a balanced development to the city, and outlines the present and future needs of the city to make it a global model, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Monday. The city will also preserve its religious and cultural heritage and resources according to the plan.

The plan also provides for residential and utility requirements of pilgrims whose number is projected to grow in huge numbers in the coming years.

It also takes into account the spiritual and material needs of the city.

The prince said the comprehensive plan was made at the orders of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah.

The prince added that city lost 83 percent of its green surface over the past 30 years. The plan also envisages bringing back the lost green areas. "The plan will be submitted to the king for approval," he said.
