BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: Free Iraqiya MP Lubna Raheem charged political blocs with obstructing the arming of Iraqi forces with advanced weapons. "There are political blocs within the parliament that incite problems during the discussions of arming the Iraqi forces or additional recruitment or training courses," she charged today according to a statement. 

The Kurdish Alliance objects to central government policies to arm the Iraqi army with new military potential, such as F16 fighters, out of fear that they may be used against the Kurds, as happened during the previous regimes. "The report submitted by Acting Defense Minister Saadoun al-Dulaimi pointed the necessity to expedite arming the Iraqi forces, which lacks advance weapons and equipment to protect it is national security and real threats from some neighboring countries," she pointed out. 

Raheem disclosed that the report called to establish a special fund for the army, instead of routine payment formalities each time. "News has already circulated that known political quarters are trying to obstruct this project," she commented, but confirmed that the present situation in the region necessitates Iraq should have a powerful army capable of protecting Iraq and moving quickly to any emergency.
