The UAE Central Bank Board of Directors has formed the International Advisory Council. Dr Robert Mundell, Dr David Dodge, Dr Joseph Yam, and Sir John Bond were selected as members.

The Central Bank Board held the first International Advisory Council meeting on October 18, where it discussed and took advice on specific matters facing UAE banking, financial and monetary regulations, and the Central Bank organisational structure.

Board Chairman Khalil AI Foulathi and Governor Sultan Al Suwaidi noted that it is imperative to listen to independent objective views and learn from the diverse experience that these Council Members bring to the table. In a world of highly challenging and rapidly changing financial landscape, the UAE Central Bank needs to learn from the experiences of this group to improve the UAE's financial and monetary stability and Central Bank governance.

Professor Robert Mundell, Nobel laureate, is presently professor of economics at New York's Columbia University the USA. Dr David Dodge, former Governor of Bank of Canada, is currently Chancellor of Queen's University. Dr Joseph Yam helped put together Hong Kong's linked exchanged rate system and was chief executive of Hong Kong Monetary Authority. Presently Dr Yam is the Executive Vice-President of the China Society for Finance and Banking. Sir John Bond former HSBC Group CEO and Chairman is now the Chairman of Vodafone.
