Egypt plans to build a civil airport at an estimated investment of USD 2 billion in Al Minya, an official source told Zawya in an exclusive.

"The airport will be built at the eastern Cairo-Assiut road on an area of 105 kilometers," said Alaa Omar, Vice Chairman of the Egyptian General Authority for Investment and Free Zones.

"It will be constructed using a build-own-transfer (BOT) model at an estimated cost of USD 2 billion," he added.

The National Center for Planning State Land Uses, in cooperation with the governorate's urban planning and other authorities, has completed the project study.

"It is due to be offered for bidding during the fourth quarter of 2015," said Omar.

The new civil airport is close to road networks and Red Sea ports and also has easy availability of skilled labor.

It will not only boost tourism in the governorate but also serve investors in the Al Minya industrial zone.
