DoHA: Barwa has appointed Bouygues Construction as the main contractor for the Barwa Financial District to be built in the commercial district of West Bay. The first stage of project is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2013. The contract is worth $1.4bn, Bouygues said in a statement
Bouygues Construction will work with Qatari companies Midmac Contracting Company and Aljaber Engineering on the project, which will take 3 1/2 years to build and involve 6,000 workers at peak times, it said.
The project will include nine office buildings with up to 52 stories, a 5-star hotel and a shopping centre.
The deal was announced at a ceremony at the Grand Hyatt, Doha, by Chairman & Managing Director of Barwa Real Estate Ghanim bin Saad Al Saad and the Chairman and CEO of Bouygues Construction Yves Gabriel.
Al Saad said: "Bouygues Construction will bring the best standards in construction to the new district of West Bay. The Financial District will be a high quality home for leading financial and commercial institutions in the world. It will become a focal point in Doha and will create the best business community in the region for companies seeking to excel in the local, regional and international markets," he said.
Bouygues is represented in over 80 countries and is no stranger to the region, with a number of high-end projects in Egypt and KSA.
