Karbala, July 13 (AKnews) - Explosions set ablaze and destroyed three fuel storage stations in Karbala last night, an official said.
Fadhel Hakim, of the oil derivatives department, told AKnews that three improvised explosive devices (IEDs) ripped through the tanks but did not cause any causalities.
Nasr fuel station, 3 km south of Karbala, Qadesiyah fuel station 4 km west of Karbala, and the fuel station on the Hajj Land Route, 15 km southwest of Karbala were attacked simultaneously.
It is not clear as yet how much oil was lost. Some civilian cars near the scene were also burnt.
Karbala police refused to comment on the incidents.
Karbala (108 km southwest of Baghdad) has been hit by that nationwide upturn in violence in recent months. With the government considering extending the end of year deadline for the withdrawal of all U.S. troops, insurgents have stepped up their campaign to make sure they're out by the 2012.
