Rhythm 2005, a Bollywood dance-song-talk show scheduled last night at Al Wasl Stadium here, was postponed abruptly earlier in the day.

Organisers One World Event said ticket-holders could either get a refund from where they bought their tickets or transfer them to the next show, the date of which is yet to be decided.

"Till the morning we were going to go ahead with the show. But we got news from Mumbai that the city was closed after a blast and we heard it was a problem to collect the tickets from the airline," said Faiza Khan of One World Event.

Officials in Mumbai said there was no blast. Mumbai had also been exempted from the India-wide strike called by a political party as a fallout of the Ayodhya shootout.

"We were also having a few technical problems here, but it was nothing we couldn't solve," Khan added.

Another source associated with the event said it had to be postponed because the PTA (pre-paid travel advice) was not sent on time. So the backup troupe of dancers could not get government clearance to travel out of India.

An official from Al Wasl Club said: "We were only told in the morning the show has been postponed. Even the stage was ready and everything had to be pulled down."

"We do not know why they postponed it, they told us there was some problem in India," he added, speaking on condition of anonymity.

"The show is not cancelled. It has been postponed and will be held when the artists are available. We plan to get new artists as well, another singer and an actress. I don't want to give the names now. We're still deciding on the date," organiser Khan said.

Actors scheduled to perform at Rhythm 2005 included Akshay Kumar, Bipasha Basu and Amrita Arora. Singers were Krishna and Richa Sharma and the main compere was Hindi film bad man Gulshan Grover.

Tickets were priced at Dh100, Dh250, Dh500, Dh1,000 and Dh1,500. A film buff said: "The ticket prices were definitely steep, considering the line-up had only two real stars."

But, Khan said, several companies had shown an interest in block booking and were happy to pay the price of VVIP and VIP tickets.
