Group is first to roll out Islamic-specific system
BMW Group Middle East has introduced the directional arrow to Qiblah in its navigation systems, starting March 2007. The company is the first to release the system.
"We have realised the changing needs of many of our customers in the Middle East, whose busy lifestyles mean they are spending more time on the roads travelling between one city to the other," said Guenther Seemann, managing director, BMW Group ME.
The system will be available in the BMW 7 Series, X3, Z4, Z4 Coupe and MINI Cabrio from March 2007. It can also be fitted into existing BMW 7 Series, BMW X5, BMW 3 Series and MINI models.
In other news, the group recently hosted the inaugural Mini Film Festival.
The regional event received 53 entries from novice filmmakers, each entry incorporating the "Always Open" theme.
"Initiatives like the Mini Film Festival 2006 are critical to bringing local perspectives and issues to the foreground through the medium of film, and it's important for developing filmmakers to get their work onto screen and to start making a name for themselves," said Antonia Carver, programme consultant to the Edinburgh International Film Festival. Carver is part of the panel of judges, which also includes BBC's Nima Abu-Wardeh.
