Five students from the tourism department of the College of Arts and Social Sciences at Sultan Qaboos University, undergoing a summer training programme in the Teutoburger Forest Nature Park, Germany, are working on a proposal to twin Corvey Castle with the Bahla Fort.

The students recently visited the Corvey Abbey and Castle in Hoxter District, Germany, to look into the potential twinning of the two heritage sites, said a press release.
The castle on the River Weser was founded in the ninth century as a Benedictine monastery and a regional initiative is working towards listing it as a cultural world heritage site with UNESCO.

"To follow up on the field visit, the SQU students, who are undergoing a six-week tourism and sustainable development training in the nature park, will work on a proposal for the potential twinning of the castle with Bahla Fort, a world heritage site in Oman," said Henning Schwarze, managing partner, INTEWO, which is offering the summer training with SQU.

He added that twinning of world heritage sites in Germany and Oman is part of the formal co-operation between governmental and non-governmental organisations in Germany and Oman under the theme 'Tourism and education for sustainable development'.
