Iraq has approved a plan to build a large tourism city near Baghdad and the designs will be shortly tendered, according to a media report on Monday.
The project, located in the Al Madain area southeast of Bahgdad, will be launched in early-2015, said Mohammed Al Rabei, a governing council member.
"The council, the Ministry of Housing and the municipalities will oversee the development. The designs will be shortly tendered to international companies," he said.
"We expect the project to be launched in the first few months of next year," he told the national Arabic daily Al Mada.
The city's governing council has approved the land designated for the project.
"Baghdad needs a developed tourism city similar to those worldwide, especially, that it has the financial resources and area for such a project," said Al Rabei without mentioning the investments involved in the venture.
