MUSCAT -- As part of expanding its health care services in the region, Badr Al Samaa Group of Hospitals is planning to set up a super speciality, world-class hospital in Muscat.

"We are expanding our services in Muscat in a big way. Badr Al Samaa Group is in the process of setting up a large super speciality hospital in Muscat, which is subject to necessary approvals from the Ministry of Health.

"This hospital will be one of the largest super speciality hospitals in the region. Nevertheless, our key objective is to provide the public with the most modern medical facilities at affordable cost. The 'hospital for all' concept project is expected to take off in the next one to two years," Abdul Latheef, managing director of Badr Al Samaa Group of Hospitals, told Times of Oman yesterday.

The world-class hospital proposal, Abdul Latheef said, is to establish a 100-300 bed capacity hospital with all super speciality services.

"Our motto is to extend excellent health and medical services to the public at large -- both nationals and expatriates. The proposed super speciality hospital will help patients avoid travelling abroad for treatment. Our 'hospital for all' concept project will have A-Z, most-modern facilities to provide medical and health care services," Abdul Latheef said.

Of late, Badr Al Samaa launched a telemedicine centre in Ruwi. The facility is located at Badr Al Samaa's branch in Ruwi. The telemedicine centre, currently facilitates doctors to communicate with medical institutions across the globe and provide patients with guidelines, especially those who get operated abroad as they can utilise this service for their post-operation treatments.

The telemedicine centre currently helps patients avoid huge expenses abroad for follow-up treatment. The new system is an integration of video, audio and peripheral to enable two or more doctors to communicate simultaneously over telecommunication lines. Video conferencing transmits synchronised images and verbal communication between two or more in lieu of them being in the same room.

As far as its humanitarian initiatives are concerned, Badr Al Samaa, on more than one occasion offered a range of free health care services to the public. During the unusual weather conditions, Badr Al Samaa had set up an exclusive helpline for the needy. A group of experienced doctors, nurses and supporting personnel participated in the hospital's efforts to help survivors. Volunteers of various organisations and the media had applauded its services.

"We had put in place a multi-location service system in our hospitals to ensure that health care service reaches to those who survived nature's fury early this month," the board of directors of Badr Al Samaa Group said.

The authorities had taken up relief work on a war footing, and the entire government machinery had been pressed into action to provide necessary assistance to the people affected. Badr team had visited many of the ravaged areas in the Muscat governorate, and provided people with free medical services.

As part of its expansion, Badr Al Samaa, recently opened its fifth branch in Al Khoud. It has always facilitated the best of technological precision in the private health care industry. They have been successful in all their innovations and success led to another. The group has been highly supportive to the public to open more medical establishments in their respective areas.

Other directors of the hospital are V.T. Vinod and P. A. Mohammed.

"World-renowned medical faculties will be visiting Badr Al Samaa more frequently this year. These special consultants from different countries have agreed to visit us regularly. Their services will be of great relief for the public at large."

Badr Al Samaa Group currently operates in Oman, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, with a chain of hospitals and polyclinics.
