Sharjah, Jan. 4, 2004 (WAM) -- Emirati Students Cultural Club of the American University in Sharjah, AUS, have designed and erected on the AUS campus a huge mosaic portrait of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan to commemorate the 40-daymourning of and as a tribute to the late UAE President and Founder.

The 6.8 x 6.8 square-metre portrait is one of the largest. It is made up of 1,600 small images of Sheikh Zayed. Each single image represents a particular time and moment in the life of the late UAE leader. Together, however, they form a large mosaic portrait that makes an overwhelming impact upon the viewer.

The portrait has been erected just outside the main entrance of the University's main building and is attracting a large crowd from the campus community. It will be placed in different locations around the campus in the coming weeks. "This is a small contribution from the Emirati Club to the citizens of the UAE. It expresses our love and respect for Sheikh Zayed," said Ibrahim Al Mayahi, Emirates Cultural Club President.
