DOHA: The Public Works Authority (Ashghal), with the support of Qatar Science Club, will soon replace manual methods in guiding vehicles at its various road project sites by robots.

The solar-powered robots would control the traffic in its major ongoing projects in Doha and outskirts. The Qatar Science Club recently briefed the operation of the robots to senior Ashghal officials.

Rashid Ibrahim, Assistant Secretary General of the club, who conceived the robot, said that the mechanical agent would automatically work for 24 hours without interruption. The robot would work with solar-power provided by solar cells that would be connected to it through a battery, which convert the solar energy into electrical.

The robot is made by light fibres in order to match with Qatar's inclement climate. Rashid Ibrahim hoped that the club could develop more robots to meet the entire demand of Ashghal soon.
