CAIRO, May 23 (KUNA) -- There is no hospital in the Arabic world qualified for dealing with the health problems in case of radioactive pollution, said Director General of Arab Atomic Energy Agency (AAEA) Mahmoud Nasruddin.
In a symposium organized by the Arab League in cooperation with the AAEA here Wednesday the Arab official warned against possible radioactive leakage from Israeli old nuclear plants.
The Arab ministers of power are scheduled to meet in Tunis between July 2 and 4 to discuss ways of implementing the resolution of Riyadh Arab Summit on the development of pan-Arab peaceful nuclear program, Nasruddin noted.
The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) is discussing with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) the GCC program for using nuclear energy in generating power and water desalination, he pointed out.
The level of pollution resulting from coal-powered electricity stations hits 60 percent, much higher than oil-related pollution. Nuclear energy is least-polluting energy.
While France is the world's major user of nuclear energy, a few Arab countries launched nuclear reactors for peaceful purposes including Egypt, Algeria, Syria and Libya, Nasruddin added.
The one-day symposium aims to familiarize Arab media people with the idioms and terminology used in nuclear-related materials.
