The Arab sciences will be on display along with poetry and music starting today at Alliance Francaise.

Following last month's events celebrating French-language films and books, Alliance Francaise (AF) is launching a week on Arab culture Quand les sciences parlent arabe (When the sciences speak Arabic).

In collaboration with Dubai Cultural Council (DCC), author Dr Mohammad Al Murr, president of the DCC, will deliver a presentation on Arab scientists. Dance and poetry will also be displayed by the Folkloric Art Association.

Philippe Nicaise, director of the Alliance Francaise in Dubai, said the exhibition has been touring the Middle East and will be making its first GCC stop in Dubai.

"The exhibition is coming from Palestine and will be going to Cairo after Dubai. It has been touring for about a year and we are very happy to host it here. We have organised some events around Arab culture so that the exhibition is not too static.

"We have two evenings on poetry and two evenings where we will screen short films made by UAE national producers. The films have been rewarded in a number of festivals."

Hani Al Chibani will be present at AF for the showing of his film Jawhara, (jewel), and Omar Ebrahim will attend the screening of Yaoum Aadi (an ordinary day).

The poet Khalid Al Boudour will host a poetry evening. Oriental nights at the AF include displays of UAE crafts, dates, Arab coffee and sheesha.
