BEIRUT: The Lebanese Civil Aviation Authority said Wednesday that Arab airlines contributed to 80 percent of the travel activity at Rafik Hariri International Airport during the first eight months of 2010, while regional and international airlines contributed to only 20 percent of this activity. The Middle East Airlines (MEA) contributed to over a third of the activity (35.34 percent), equivalent to 1.3 million travelers. MEA was followed by Emirates Airlines (5.71 percent), Air France (3.99 percent), Fly Dubai (3.58 percent), Royal Jordanian (3.4 percent) and finally Qatar Airways (3.39). The report issued by the Lebanese civil aviation authority stated that the other companies’ share in the overall travel activity was less than 3 percent, headed by the Turkish Airlines (2.96 percent), followed by Itihad Airlines (2.92 percent), Egypt Air (2.45 percent) and Lufthansa (2.37 percent). As for the companies that deal with Lebanon in the field of air transport, the UAE ranked first with 18.34 percent of the total travel activity with Lebanon, equivalent to 677,300 travelers. – The Daily Star
