Bahrain yesterday launched a first-of-its-kind mobile phone application for health inspectors to allow them to digitally record health breaches.

‘Munshaat’ is among the five new systems launched by the National Health Regulatory Authority (NHRA).

Other systems announced by Supreme Council for Health chairman Lieutenant General Dr Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdulla Al Khalifa are: Two online platforms, Munshaat and Mehan, to help facilities and professionals, respectively, with their licences, a mobile version of Mehan and an automated financial system for fee payments. The Munshaat app for inspectors – a unique internal system accessible only to NHRA inspectors and officials – will help streamline records and reduce manual entries, according to NHRA chief executive Dr Mariam Al Jalahma.

“The phone application for inspectors is the first-of-its-kind in Bahrain; it is not for the public but accessible only to inspectors and officials,” she told the GDN.“It is uniquely designed with a specific checklist on compliance levels for facilities and professionals.

“As the inspector completes the required checks and requirements, the system generates a PDF report with all of the violations.“It will assist inspectors in the entire process digitally, as all inspection operations, including documenting the types of breaches and sending violation reports, will be done via the app.“Inspectors can use the app when inspecting facilities to record their observations, take photos, submit videos, and complete reports while on the job.

“Officials will also use it to keep track of inspectors’ performance and the inspection system.

“This will add value to the entire system because it will help simplify all records and will soon help to stop manual entries.”Mehan, an online system, which will be available on all platforms will help more than 18,000 medical professionals with their licence-related services, explained Dr Al Jalahma.A mobile version of Mehan is expected to be rolled out in the coming days.“Currently, the services are only partially online with many things like documentation to be done manually.“With this app professionals can apply and complete all related procedures online, from their phone or computer.“This means better and faster services.“The Mehan phone app will be launched in the coming two to three days and it will benefit more than 18,000 professionals working in Bahrain.

”Services will include applying for a professional licence, renewal, good standing certificate, reference letters and other add-ons.The personalised app will also help individuals with all the information about their licence, including a reminder system.Meanwhile, the new electronic platform Munshaat which aims to regulate the licensing of all healthcare facilities will serve 822 facilities registered under the NHRA.“On this system, each facility will have its own account, with details and can be accessed only by an authorised person,” said Dr Al Jalahma.

“It will include licensing activities, inspection reports and violations, adding or cancelling of services, or request for renewals.

“It will be an alert system to notify of expiry dates of licences and will help to avoid penalties.

“Centre heads can save time as they can use this app to streamline approval for staff employment by NHRA.“The financial system will help healthcare facilities in making their payments online.”PerformanceLt Gen Dr Shaikh Mohammed, speaking at the unveiling, praised NHRA’s accomplishments, saying that they were finished in 11 months and that they will help improve the services and performance of healthcare facilities and professionals.“Improving the electronic system is critical as SCH moves closer to the National Health Insurance Scheme (Sehati) with a comprehensive health information system that includes digital patient medical records, medication movements, payment reimbursement, and medical service follow-up.

”The GDN reported last month that Sehati will be launched early next year, with a trial run of the self-management programme at healthcare centres and government hospitals.

The scheme would include expats in the second quarter of next year and nationals in early 2023.raji@gdn.com.bh
