There seems to be no saturation point in the explosive growth of Malayalam television channels.
Two more new entrants have been added to the already big bouquet of Malayalam channels within a fortnight's time.
Only a few days ago Shalom TV channel was launched, with strong moorings on Christianity-oriented programmes.
The latest entrant is Amrita TV channel, which comes from the stable of the well-known Mata Amritanandamayi Mutt in Kollam. Amrita TV will begin telecast on April 14.
These two channels will join more than half a dozen other Malayalam channels already in existence, which include Asianet, Asianet News, Kairali, Jeevan, India Vision, Surya and Kiran, besides the state-owned Doordarshan.
That is quite a growth, considering that just over a decade ago there were only two Malayalam channels, namely Doordarshan and Asianet.
