KUWAIT: Alukkas Jewellery, the flagship company of the Dubai-based Joy Alukkas group, one of the most trusted and renowned names in the world of gold jewellery, will be unveiling its first store at the Gold Souk, Gurgaon on Oct 16, 2005. General will be done by Bollywood actress Mallika Sherawat. The swanky store, spread over a huge area of 2,500 sq ft stocks an array of exquisite and meticulously crafted ornaments in gold, diamond, platinum, pearls and other precious stones.
Besides traditional Indian jewellery, there are several new collections on display, borne out of a number of inspirations... From the exotic dervishes of Turkey to the nomadic tribes of the Middle East, from the Venetian paintings of Italy to the glittering waterfronts of Singapore.... Making Alukkas the first jeweller in India to introduce to the country, a world-class one-stop jewellery shop, providing consumers with a truly international jewellery shopping experience. A three kg, intricately woven gold dress, will be unveiled on the occasion, thus revealing the masterly craftmanship of the Alukkas design team.
Speaking ahead of the launch of the store, Joy Alukkas, Chairman said, "We offer over one lakh designs, which comprise both traditional as well as contemporary forms, keeping with the demands of our consumers. We thus provide them both exclusivity and assured purity."
Commenting on the expansion plans in India, he added," India is an ever-growing market in the field of gold consumption. Having established leadership in the Middle East, we are now looking at consolidating our presence in South India and expanding in North India. We already have eleven outlets in South India and this store is the first one of the nearly twenty more showrooms we plan to open in the country by the end of 2006."
Annual gold consumption in India, the world's largest importer and consumer of gold, is expected to surge nearly 33 per cent in 2005 to 700 tonnes. In value terms, the Indian gold market is estimated around Rs 45,000 crore (Rs 450 billion).
