The Algerian government, through state-owned oil and petrochemicals firm Sonatrach, will establish a phosphate conversion plant for USD 2 billion at El Aouinet in Tebessa state, with an annual production capacity of five million tons, a senior official told Zawya.
The Algerian government, through state-owned oil and petrochemicals firm Sonatrach, will establish a phosphate conversion plant for USD 2 billion at El Aouinet in Tebessa state, with an annual production capacity of five million tons, a senior official told Zawya.
An international tender for the project will be issued in September 2012, the official at the Algerian ministry of energy and mining said on condition of anonymity. Construction of the plant is expected to start before the end of 2012 and completed in 2015.
The project will cover 774 hectares of land and is expected to create more than 4,000 jobs.
Tebessa state has about 2.2 billion tons of the phosphate reserves.
