Dubai Al Zahra School and Al Watan Al Arabi School bagged the girls and boy’s categories in the volleyball competitions as the Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad School Games concluded earlier this week.
Al Zahra School bagged the girls title with identical 2-1 wins against Al Khansa School and the Umm Suqueim School, who settled for the second and third positions respectively.
In the boy’s competition, Al Watan Al Arabi ended at the top of the standings leaving Dubai National School, Al Barsha in second place, while the Religious Institute bagged the third spot.
Both winners of the volleyball competitions received cash incentives of Dh 20,000 each, while the runners-up walked away with Dh 15,000 and the third-placed teams with Dh 10,000 apiece.
In the football tournament, Zayed School and Al Muhalab School bagged the under-12 titles in the boys’ and girls’ categories, while Dubai National School, Al Barsha, made it a double when the boys took the basketball title, while the Dubai National School, Nad Al Sheba win the girls crown.
Majid Mohammad from Omar Bin Al Khatab School got the first place in the three kilometres Road Race Competition, which was held with participation of more than 800 pupils from various governmental and private schools.
The Athletics Championships drew a huge response with Mohammad Al Hadi Al Tijani from Dubai International School, Al Garhoud, bagging the 100 metres gold, his team-mate Ali Abdul Rasoul taking the first place in long jump, while Abdullah Darwish Hassan and Hamdan Saleh Naji from Al Shafee School took the shot put and 400 metres gold medal. Dubai National School, Al Barsha, capped a fine day by winning 4x100 metres relay to end at the top of the overall standings.
Dubai National School dominated all under-12 swimming competitions with Abdullah Karam clinching a double with wins in the 50 metres freestyle and breaststroke, while Butti Mohammad took the 50m backstroke.
