The new hospital of the General Authority of Health Services (GAHS) which is set to open soon will be the most modern hospital in Abu Dhabi.

The Al Rahba hospital, located in the northern part of the capital, is classified and designed as an advanced secondary care general hospital and will deliver diagnostic and curative services in a wide range of sectors.

Ahmed Al Rumaithy, director of the Health Services Department at the GAHS, told Gulf News: "Al Rahba is considered the most modern hospital in the emirate providing long term patients care and several community services," he said.

The new hospital, to be opened in the second quarter of the year 2003 will serve Al Rahba, Shahama, Al Baheya, Al Samha and the catchment areas located in the Eastern part of Abu Dhabi.

"The scheduled hospital capacity upon inauguration will be 116 beds but will to be increased to 142 beds later," said Al Rumaithy, adding that the GAHS is now gearing up for the inauguration having obtained the approval of the Executive Council of Abu Dhabi.

According to sources at the GAHS, the hospital will be completed in three phases. The final phase will end by the third year, with operational costs amounting to roughly Dh193 million, which will enable the hospital to deliver the best, efficient and effective health services.

The hospital will deliver diagnostic and curative services in gynaecology, obstetrics, internal medicine, paediatrics, general surgery, orthopaedics, ophthalmology, ear, nose and throat, dentistry and emergency services.

In addition, Al Rahba Hospital will consist of many other departments and sections, including accident and emergency unit, anaesthetisation and intensive care unit, laboratory, X-ray, pharmacology and physiotherapy.
